Haymarket, Virginia is a town in Prince William County. The town was chartered in 1799. The town was invaded in 1862 by Federal troops, entering homes and taking what they wanted, and then the next day the entire town was set on fire. Only four buildings were spared, and as a result, the town remained unpopulated until the Civil War was over and then Haymarket began its recovery and began a slow journey to regain in size and prosperity. In 1882 it was incorporated. The town has grown over the years, offering the character of a small town but having the amenities of a larger city.
