Gainesville, Virginia is located in western Prince William County. It was once a changing point for stagecoaches, but the stagecoach line discontinued when the Manassas Gap Railroad came through. In 1752 the area became known as Gainesville. Up through the 1960s, it was a shipping point for cattle. Before then it was also a shipping point for timber and grain. Today there are approximately 14,300 that call Gainesville home. Since 2000 major residential and commercial development has taken place in the area.
The natural beauty of the Gainesville area can be enjoyed at the Conway-Robinson State Forest. The forest is 444 acres of old growth hardwood and pine and is near Manassas National Battlefield. The forest is a wildflower and wildlife sanctuary and is used for environmental education. There are also trails for hiking and mountain biking. If you want to enjoy the outdoors by camping, the Hillwood Camping Park has some 140 sites, areas for picnics, and small fishing available. They also offer hook-up conveniences for campers. Golfers will enjoy checking out the Virginia Oaks Golf Club. There are 18 holes that are spread out over 6928 years and have towering oaks throughout the course. The Virginia Oaks Golf course overlooks Lake Manassas and has a golf shop, as well as a banquet hall in the clubhouse. Residents and visitors of Gainesville will enjoy the many shops and restaurants as well as the new businesses coming in.
Gainesville real estate is a combination of newer contemporary homes and older ranch style and traditional homes. You’ll also find some colonial homes as well as federal style homes. There are many neighborhoods with active Homeowners Associations, with well-kept neighborhoods and quality homes. Many of the neighborhoods have their own parks and pools or playing fields.
