The unincorporated village of Bluemont is a community in Loudoun County, Virginia, nestled at the base of Snickers Gap, a wind gap at the bottom of Blue Ridge Mountain. Bluemont is the highest sitting community in the county with an elevation of 680 feet. Called Snickersville initially, community leaders changed the name to Bluemont to attract people from the Washington, D.C. area after the extension of the Washington and Old Dominion Railroad from Round Hill was finished. European settlers began moving to the area of modern-day Bluemont as early as the 1770s when a new connector road was established between the old Winchester Pike, which connected Winchester with Loudoun via Keye’s Gap. Since it was created as a resort town back then, it’s still considered a perfect place for Washingtonians to go when they want to escape the sweltering heat during the summer days. During the winter months, residents and tourists alike enjoy the many cozy resort-style wineries and other exciting destinations. The most prominent event held in this quaint village is the Bluemont Fair, a gathering of residents and people from the surrounding areas who partake in several different contests such as pie baking, pickle making, and a 10K race.
Being that this is primarily a mountain village, there are many great outdoor activities to do for those who own property in Bluemont, Virginia. In addition to that, residents enjoy going to the various wineries in and around the area. One example is Twin Oaks Tavern Winery located at 18035 Raven Rocks Road right here in Bluemont. Then there is Bluemont Vineyard situated at 18755 Foggy Bottom Road.
